2020 AHA UPDATES

Here are some major issues that affect all rescuers:

 

- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults.

- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) used for infants, children, and adults.

- BLS and CPR techniques for infants, children, and adults.

- CPR with an advanced airway.

- Mouth-to-mouth breathing and rescue breathing.

- Compression-only CPR in a community setting.

- In-service and blended learning opportunities.

Here are some changes by the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2020 regarding the Adult and pediatric Chains of Survival.

​

-A sixth link was added to the chains of survival which focuses on cognitive support to recovery.

 

-In the case of infant compressions, a single rescuer can use either two fingers, two thumbs, or the heel of one hand.

​

-For rescue breathing in Adults, one breath should be given every six seconds, while for rescue breathing in Infants and Children, one breath should be given every 2-3 seconds.
